The reducer is used to change from a Mini cable to Micro or Mid cable. For examle, one end of the network might be terminated at the top of the mast but it may not be desireable to run a Mini trunk cable up the mast. In this case, you can switch over to Micro or Mid cable at the base of the mast using the reducer and continue up the mast with Micro or Mid cable.
